Omar Farajani

SNHR has briefed the UN Working Group on Enforced or Involuntary disappearances, of the case of citizen Omar Abd Al-Rahman Farajani, aged 29 at the time of arrest, from Homs, Tadmur. SNHR has asked the Syrian authorities for his release. He was arrested arbitrarily for the second time from a hospital that was destroyed by a patrol of the security branch in the desert of Military Intelligence in Homs on the 12th of September 2011. The patrol recruits were wearing military and civilian uniforms, without showing him a warrant for his arrest.

Omar Farajani has not been able to make any steps to find out the whereabouts of Omar because the family escaped to Lebanon after receiving threats of being arrested by Badia security branch in Tadmur because of their refusal to go out in a march loyal to the Syrian authorities at the time of 2011.
Since the date of his disappearance his family has not received any news indicating his whereabouts, until the date of notifying the Rapporteur from the United Nations on the 10th of February 2015. His fate is still unknown.

Syrian authorities deny the enforced disappearance of citizen Omar Abd Al-Rahman Farajani, and SNHR and his family are both unable to determine his fate as of now. They are afraid of detention and torture in the event of repeating questions about him, as this has happened with many similar cases.
SNHR demanded the United Nations Committee on Enforced Disappearance to intervene with the Syrian authorities for the immediate release of him, along with the release of thousands of cases of enforced disappearances and the need to determine their fate.
