On Saturday, February 7, 2026, five civilians were killed in the village of Al-Matuna in the northern countryside of As-Suwayda Governorate while working in olive groves. The area is under the control of the Syrian government.
Based on information gathered by the Syrian Network for Human Rights from reliable local sources, an element of the Internal Security Service affiliated with the Ministry of Interior in the Syrian government opened fire on civilians, killing Khaled Walid Al-Jardi, Samer Kamal Amer, Hadi Nassar Amer, and Maher Nassar Amer instantly, and seriously wounding Firas Ahmed Al-Halabi, who died from his injuries on February 15, 2026.
According to the information we have, the bodies were transferred to the police hospital in the city of Harasta, east of the Damascus countryside governorate, and then transferred by the Red Crescent to Shahba Hospital in the northern countryside of the Suwayda governorate, to be handed over to the victims’ families.
According to an official statement issued by the Syrian Ministry of Interior, the head of internal security in the Suwayda Governorate, Brigadier General Hossam Al-Tahhan, stated that the Criminal Investigation Department branch began investigating immediately after the incident, and that the authorities arrested the element suspected of involvement and referred him to investigation to complete the necessary legal procedures.
