General Assembly of the United Nations

The Syrian Network for Human Rights, represented by its chairman Mr. Fadel Abdul Ghany, participated in several meetings in the 70th session of the General Assembly of the United Nations in September 2015, in the United Nations headquarters in New York.

Mr. Fadel delivered a speech entitled “Silence is Worse than Crimes again Humanity and War Crimes”. The speech tackled the Syrian government’s use of barrel bombs. A number of satellite images for Douma city were presented; as it showed the damage amount caused by shelling with barrel bombs on residential areas. The images compared the amount of destruction in one year, before and after UN Security Council resolution 2139 was issued on 22 February 2014, which is conclusive evidence about the Syrian regime’s violations for the Security Council resolutions.

Also, SNHR participated in the Leaders’ Summit which was about “Countering ISIL and Violent Extremism” that was hosted by President Barak Obama. The network also participated in several meetings with a number of international organizations and human rights bodies.
Since 2011, SNHR has constantly participated in similar meetings in order to raise more awareness about the Syrian cause, besides its commitment to documenting the violations being committed against the Syria people.
