The Syrian government is using minors’ money to finance its war on the Syrian opposition

On 25 May 2014, the High Sharia judge, Mahmood Al-Marawai, announced that the Ministry of Justice is about to adapt a law to “protect the minors’ money”. This new law will allow the state to seize the money of more than one million minors and orphans deposited in bank accounts as savings and endowments to guarantee them a decent life.
We, in SNHR, deem the official Judiciary in Syria illegitimate taking into consideration its lack of independence and the fact that it is blatantly used by the authority to justify its political arrests and brutal acts of torture. In addition, the judiciary is completely impartial in favor of the Security apparatus that is perpetrating crimes against humanity and war crimes in a continuous and wide manner.
