The water in Al-Hajar Al-Aswad in the capital Damascus has been suddenly and completely cut off since 2 June, 2014 by the Syrian government. This collective punishment of more than 20 thousand residents, who more than half of them are children and women, is because they rejected a truce with the Syrian regime.

In the last few days, the residents’ conditions have gotten worse disastrously after some of the residents tried in the first days to get water out of the wells which resulted in tens of poisoning cases.

SNHR condemns the Syrian regime actions that represent a discriminate collective non-distinguishing extermination of the neighborhood civilians including the women and the children as it has been blocking the water for more than a month. We also demand the UN Security Council to condemn this act and press on the Syrian regime to stop using water as a warfare method against the residents.
