A meeting was held at the Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) office in Damascus between the National Commission for Transitional Justice, represented by its president, Mr. Abdul Basit Abdul Latif, and a number of his team members, with SNHR, represented by its director, Mr. Fadel Abdulghany, and a number of the Network’s team.

The meeting’s discussions focused on transitional justice in Syria. Mr. Abdul Ghani spoke about the vision issued by SNHR on the transitional justice process in Syria and the challenges facing its implementation. Mr. Abdul Basit highlighted the importance of recognizing victims’ rights, uncovering the truth, and ensuring their effective participation. He emphasized that the Commission seeks to build strategic partnerships with Syrian civil society organizations, particularly those with advanced experience in documentation and human rights work.

The discussion also addressed the prospects for coordination and cooperation mechanisms, with Mr. Abdul Ghani affirming the Syrian Network for Human Rights’ support for the Commission’s work as a national process that serves the interests of victims. This includes leveraging the Syrian Network’s database, which includes incidents of violations dating back to 2011. To ensure speedy and effective implementation, integrated coordination between the National Commission for Transitional Justice and civil society organizations is essential. Both parties emphasized the continuation of regular meetings and the expansion of the framework for coordination and cooperation during the next phase.
