SNHR briefed the UN Working Group on Enforced or Involuntary disappearances, of the case of Mrs. Rabah Al Zain from Joret Al Shaiyah neighborhood in Homs city, age 48 at the time of her arrest, and asked to request of the Syrian authorities to release her. She was arrested arbitrarily on 21 June 2015, when she was passing the checkpoint (Al Saleh Al Reyadiyeh barrier) in Tareeq Al Sham road in Homs city by military security forces related to government forces, and took her to an unknown place. The checkpoint members were in military and civilian outfits. Her family had no information to determine her fate or whereabouts after that date, since then her fate remain unknown for her family and the Syrian Network for Human Rights as well.
Syrian authorities deny enforcing Mrs. Rabah Al Zain to disappear, SNHR were unable to determine her fate until now, as is her family, and they are afraid of detention and torture in the event of repeating questions about her, as happened with many similar cases.
SNHR demanded the United Nations Committee on Enforced Disappearance to intervene with the Syrian authorities for her immediate release, and the release of thousands of cases of enforced disappearances and the need to determine their fate.
