Damascus: The Syrian Network for Human Rights signed a memorandum of understanding with the Higher Judicial Institute in Syria to cooperate in building judicial capacity. This partnership aims to contribute to developing the competence of judges and trainees in the Syrian justice sector and to enhance their response to serious human rights violations in accordance with international standards.

The memorandum of understanding establishes a general framework for cooperation between the two parties in designing and implementing a specialized training program. The program targets judges and judicial trainees within a long-term vision for developing the justice sector in the country. Participants will receive joint certificates of attendance issued by both parties upon completion of each course, confirming their completion of the training program, but these certificates do not constitute independent academic or professional qualifications.

Fadel Abdulghany, Executive Director of SNHR, says, “This partnership represents an important step in linking documentation and human rights work with the national judicial system, by investing in the capabilities of judges and trainees to better understand the concepts of human rights and transitional justice and apply them in their daily judicial work.”

The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) affirms that this memorandum comes within its broader vision to contribute to building a national justice system that respects international standards and places the rights of victims at the heart of judicial and institutional reform, through constructive partnerships with relevant national institutions, foremost among them the judicial and educational institutions in the justice sector.
